I am a busy body and with my obessive complusive, type A personality, I have aways jump into new advantures with both feet. (Well, I guess this time with two hands, all ten of my fingers and nails, too.) More about myself and what is on my mind later.
On with the polish…
So yesterday, wait, no the day before yesterday, Thursday, my DH (short for “my Dear Husband”) had a birthday dance, so couldn’t go with bare nails to the dance. However, I had no time paint and wait for layers of polish to dry. In haste, I decided to go with my trust worthy Jessica Rejuvenating Basecoat and Orly Purple Pleather. Since, the Purple Pleather has a rubbery-matte finish, I can save time by not applying any top coat.
While my DH is teaching the dance class, I sat in his truck (yes, the windows were open) and used what was left of the dwendlling twilight to polish my nails. This photo was taken the next morning.
The purple is very intense, saturated, and solid. The application is smooth and covered well with only a few bald spots after the first coat. It did looked streaky at first but after covering a second coat and give a little time to dry, everything looks even. The finish is unique and I cannot stop rubbing against the nails. (Yes, I am a very touchy feely kinda person.) Even with just the windows cracked open, the smell was bareable. The dry time was quite fast. I waited 15 minutes before heading out for some dancing and no smears or nicks.
Here is on the wear and tear of the polish.
After 24 hours (by Friday night) and two shopping trips to TJMaxx and Walmart, I got the usual tip wear and one large chip on the right thumb from rubbing on a handfull of clothing hangers. So I’d say, it did well, considering with no top coat at all. I attempted to “patch” the chip area and it looks pretty decent from arm length but noticable up on close inspection.
Today is Saturday, offically less than 48 hours (since, I manicured) but it’s “third day” polish, in my opinion, needs a little “jazzing” up. So using Flirty also by Orly, I masked and tipped both of the ring fingers for an accent nail look. I love the color combo. Flirty doesn’t totally covered the purple but I am okay with it. Flirty also has a “matte-ish” finished so compliments the Purple Pleather well.
So what are your thoughts? Have you tried any rubber finished polish before? Well, you should. I know there is a navy blue that I will be getting on my next trip to the shop.
